| I'm really excited about getting my Vulkan He'stan model in July, but I had a question:
I want to put him on a 40mm base instead of the supplied 25mm base. I'm fairly certain this is allowed, but are there any real drawbacks to putting him on the larger base, other than the fact that more enemies can touch him? He looks like a very full model and I just don't think the 25mm is going to let me do what I want.
Thoughts...Opinions?

| As long as the edge of his base closest to your opponent in deployment is not past the zone line and as long as you measure front of base to front of base for movement, I see no real issues.
The only thing that somebody could call you on is measuring for firing. You would have an extra 1/2" (or so) over the 25mm if you measure from the base edge.
OH NOEZ!!! A friendly game and you get a extra 1/2"?!?! I must call you out on this! /whaaaambulance

Ghazkhull Actually you'd only have 7.5mm of those 15mm closer. The other 1/2 are on the back of the figure. It is inconsequential b/c you start at the same spot. ie. if you take your base edge as close as you are allowed at deployment you are never any closer then you would be with a 25mm base. The issue for you is that it makes it more difficult to get into HTH with other figures if your 40mm Vulcan model is in BTB with the enemy with other figures the distance of troops piling in behind you may be further then the allowed distance to which they can contribute attacks. For me, I'd play it as if you were on a 25mm base for the purpose of navigating and "within" 1 inch of an opponent. or passing by impassible terrain. Meaning I'd grant you the 7.5mm.... since I'm such a gentleman. |

| I think hes asking more about what the rules (or tournies) would say rather than what most people would allow him to do.
Friendly games after all can usually be resolved to let anything happen.
I actually have the same question, kinda want to something really cool with my guard commander, as he will be leading a 4 man melta squad and not doing anything except dying to the first CC or shooting that comes him way, Id like to make him look good while he does it

| I know in the past the ruling has always been that the models should be on the base it comes with or a BIGGER base. You just couldn't go smaller (for tournaments anyway.)
Not sure if general opinion has changed on that since 5th ed.

As far as my experience in 5th ed. tournaments goes that hasn't changed.

| The rules on p3 of the BRB handle this. Basically, you're only allowed to change from the supplied base if your opponent is okay with it.
Probably should check with any tournaments anyways though.

| As I'm less concerned about tournaments than casual play, I guess I'll be fine. | |

Thoughts...Opinions? How dare you make the model easier to hit with template weapons! Outrageous. *shakes a fist*
