| Anyone know how these came about? I've been interested as to why someone would mash a chainsword and a powerfist together, but I cannot find any fluff on it. | |

| Yeah I'm not too sure why adding a chainsword of all things makes it better at killing armor.
I would look back to some of the early 2nd Edition books, as that is when the model first came out. I doubt you will find any actual fluff reason though.
We can always speculate... | |

| My guess would be that the same reasoning why a flamberge for the german and swiss armies of olde was thought to make a more devestating cut because it was wavy... | |

| Well if you think about it adding that chainsword would be a good idea.... The power fist wouldn't really be able to smash through the hulk of the armor so they add the chain sword so when they take the shreeding power of it and the immensive power of the fist it would tear through armor like butter....that would be my guess | |

| but on that note, chainfists can not even effectively tear through infantry armor like matt said. using on a tank would be no more effective than a baseball bat. | |

| It is, I don't think it has any sort of field around it, unless the field for the fist is extended around the chainsword part of the weapon. | |

| I'd say it's either that, or the cutting power of the chainsword (adamantine teeth or some such thing in novels) is based on the strength (and dexterity) of the wielder. | |

| well the eviscerator does the same thing and its weilded by normal people so that puts a bug in that though also it could be a power chain sword or a suped up one(extra power behind it better teeth and such) just my thoughts | |

| Bruce has a good point, it has to be something with the weapon itself and not the wielder. | |
