Is it really that bad? I thought I heard that some players like it, but it just takes some getting used to/switching of tactics.

Compared to what they had, yes it is. Try play a BA player under 3nd Ed. They ruled. I think many people were waiting for a big redo in 4th, where as they only got a nerf. Funny, because Chaos barely received a nerf compared to these guys.. but were in need of it just as much.

Cons
-They lost massed DC. Death company got pricey (instead of virtually free)
-They lost almost all of their wargear
-Most units went up in price
-Lost scalable units (it's either 5 or 10 man for most of this list)

Pros
-Assault marines became troops (but cost more than they did)
-The only Ld 10 Librarian is Mephisto, regular Librarians in this army are Ld9

Games Workshop could afford to 'nerf' both Blood Angels and Dark Angels with less risk than 'nerfing' Chaos because they both have much smaller fan bases.

Mephiston rocks! He has become uber marine of death because he can use all of his psychic powers and his force weapon, he has Feel No Pain, and he has base strength and toughness 5(meaning he will only not get Feel No Pain against strength 10/D weapons!)

Because of this, there is no need to take a normal librarian

By the way, Matt where did you find that awesome model?

Model was from Bolter and Chainsword.

There is one very simple reason that it would be better to take a normal librarian...Mephiston costs as much as a landraider. He suffers the same fate as Abaddon. Looks awesome on paper, but can't get around the board quick enough to lay down the pain.

Nerfing isn't about who they will piss off more. It's more closely related to who and what needs it. BA's needed it. Chaos did too.

Chaos got it, but not to the degree BA did. In some ways they actually got better.

For example there is no reason a loyal marine Terminator should still cost 40+ point a model, when Chaos terminators are 30.

I've got a friend that plays Blood Angels all of the time and he always takes Mephiston.

His jetpack psychic power really puts him one up one Abbadon, as he can move sooo much faster.

You can still probably play refuse Mephiston if you were smart about it. Then I would send a sacrificial squad to tie him up for a turn or two. It would be hard to get to make his points back against a strategy to avoiding him.

Generally there are also other BA units you want to avoid such as

Death Company

Death Company Furiouso Dreadnoughts

Veteran Assault Squads

Any way you go you're going to have to fight something that can screw with your battle plans

You really don't even have to avoid him or throw a unit at him, he simply cannot kill quick enough to win his points back. Unless people are stupid enough to throw uber expensive units at him.

Death company are awesome, but so expensive now for what they provide.

Furiouso dreads are again too slow. And just get shot walking toward the enemy. You could pod him, but unless the whole army is going in this way he will just get eaten up.

Vet assault squads are one of the few units in the army I think are very good (although teenie weenie bit pricey). Those guys are mean.
