Sounds fun! Would you have to use the units from your previous matches as the day goes on? Not all that familiar with the escalation rules. Also would you adjust the round time for each?

Yes, points increase with some rules on what has to be maintained from round to round. This is a total pain to even attempt to assess, so I will be relying on players to be honest. Round time changes. Missions will be similar to the ones we've used in the past.

How about this sound for time? h:mm
1000 pts 2:00
1500 pts 2:30
2000 pts 3:00

You must maintain all your units and warlord from round to round but you may add models to existing units and change upgrades.

3 hours for a 2000 pt Tournament game is a LONG time to play.

I struggled a bit with the round times. We've been doing 2.5 hrs for 1850 pts, so I thought I'd extend it a bit. We could do 2 hr 45 min? Keep in mind we have some newer players who can tend to take a little longer to play

It just gets really long and might be more of a burn out factor for new players than 2 hour rounds.
With the current rules 1850 Vs 2000 isn't all that big a difference it is most likely one or possibly two units.

So I have a question on the escalation format.
Can your detachment type change from round to round if you now meet the requirement for a new Detachment.

The example, I had an HQ and Troops and a Heavy as an Allied Detachment.
Once we move up to 1500 points I get two troops and it is a CAD.
A bunch of the Codex specific detachments are pretty hard to fit at 1000 points if not impossible but at 1500 or 2000 they are possible with the addition of new units.

Also if you add a character that MUST be warlord as your points go up do you get to change warlord between rounds?

I figured on some exceptions would arise. As its worded now, your Warlord must remain unchanged. Therefore, you'd have to choose the character that MUST be the Warlord in round 1 and your primary detachment. As far as a detachment changing, as long as the units remained unchanged and you added units or models that now qualified you in later round for a new detachment's requirements AND you maintained your primary detachment, then I say yes. Did I answer your question? I'm dizzy. 7e is soooooo easy. Play what ya got and have fun...or not.

For the 2000 points in round 3, you will be limited to 4 instead of 3 detachments as specified by ITC

But David you added the extra rules 7th ed is pretty easy the extra stuff just creates more places for rules to conflict.

Anyways

We played some games this week and this question came up.

Can you change wargear between the rounds?
Most specifically can you upgrade models as the points change by taking war gear they did not have at the previous point level?

Yes, you may change upgrades as your list changes.

Examples:
Round 1 my SM sergeant was plain. In round 2 I have him a melta bomb.

In Round 1 and 2 my SM captain had a power sword. In round 3 I dropped the power sword and got a power fist.

In round 1 I didn't have a libriarian. In round 2 I added a librarian. In round 3 I increased the librarians ML by 1. Note: I couldn't drop the librarian in roind 3 but I could reduce his ML.

Quote :
1000, 1500 and 2000 points

Each round the points increase starting at Round 1 - 1000 pts or less, Round 2 - 1500 pts or less and Round 3 - 2000 pts or less. Player must maintain the core 1000 points (same primary detachment, Warlord and units) throughout the tournament. You may add models to the core units and change upgrades in Round 2 and 3 and add new units.

If there are ways to simplify, I am all for it. The problem is there are holes in the rules. Adding ITC creates a whole set of FAQ that is not addressed by GW.
