| Soooo.. now that the "Make a Date" session is over, any thoughts on what I took in the list? For tournies based off of current books, I think we will see 2-3 Monolith lists and Ork/Tyranid hordes. Codex: Space Marines could change this. So then this is how I see the army working.. The 40 Kroot provide large, Infiltrating, scoring bumps for the nasties running towards my Fire Warrior line. Gun Drones provide a little Deep Striking, pinning capability, fast units to contest objectives late game. As mentioned, the XV88s provide antiAV14 ala Monoliths, Land Raders, etc. Ethereal allows the Fire Warriors and XV88s in the backfield LD re-rolls and even grants Fearless to FW squads he runs back and forth from. I simply have to take the XV8 and may switch to Linked Missile Pod for APCs. Finally, the Stealth Teams provide even more S5 firepower. The models are smaller than the XV8s for LOS purposes, but with Infiltrate and JSJ abilities they take the cake. Unless metagame suggests multiple Rhino APCs (ie: no entangle, no chinese fire drill, etc) than a pair of Linked Missile Pod XV8s may be in order. | |

| The one thing that I see is that if you have your troops set up in a gunline, with your XV88s in the back, you will end up giving cover saves to the enemy by firing through all of your firewarriors and kroot.
Hammerheads have the benefit of being physically taller and able to see over intervening troops.

| All my FWs will be modeled kneeling/laying down Disruption Pods on a Hammerhead do make them a bit silly. I could go 2x 10 Fire Warriors and 4x 10 Kroot for more versatility. Sean may give me a game Friday so we shall see. ----- Either way its one helluva boring setup! | |

| How do you handle something like Deep Striking Demons or Pesky orks coming in from behind? Just asking not saying its an issue... I'll bring both orks and Demons friday just need a few more to finish it out... | |

| I think Kroot will give up KP's a bit too easily to run 4 squads. | |

| what an amazing display of firepower man. really the main weakness would be the armies weakness i.e. close combat i like the idea of a lot of kroot.. cheap and incredibly good at what they do (suck up enemy firepower/time/attention). especially perfect for tau. wont the XV88's be taller than FW's anyways? you shouldnt have to model them. that will all depend on 5th though i guess and how rules are exactly worded. i would like to test it out as well... how does 3.5 months from now sound? | |

| Its just how I see Tau in 5th... dull, dull, dull Hell, all armies are going to Troop spam. Coming to a table near you: 4x30 Ork Boyz Tactical Squads 12 Necrons 20 Gaunts 10 Avengers Guard Platoons 7 Plague Marines | |

| The list is nice overall, but it seems way to static and your XV88's seem prone to easy attacks, sure they have the Shield Drones, but it doesn't seem like your army could last long enough against any army that can move quick and hit hard in H2H. I just don't see this being very effective against a horde army. Main reason for that is I just don't think you can lay down enough fire to wipe them out. Against the demon army I think you wont have that kind of problem, just mostly with fast hard hitting armies will wipe you fast. That's just my two cents though. | |

| I think I've thought my way into taking a Sky Ray Cover Saves will be all over the place in 5th it seems. - Quote :

Good point and I would stick with 20 coming on the sides. Maybe I can "Go to the Ground" in some woods near an objective for a 2+ cover save.. ------ I'd really would like to return to Tau, but those Marines are soo purty!
