| So, I'm thinking about how to expand my Ork forces, and I came up with an idea, and I thought I'd get some opinions before I even begin to think about buying the stuff for it. Basically, what i was thinking was taking a plastic Space Marine dreadnought and hollowing out the middle a little, putting an ork driver into it, then adding some ork weapons and markings and using it as a Deff Dread. Any opinions on this? Reason I was thinking of doing it this way is that I could get a Black Reach dread off of ebay for pretty cheap (probably), then get a driver from one of the deff koptas, or even one from a war bike, and hack it in...... | |

| the inside is a little too small in my opinion for a fill size ork.. i tried this conversion with a chaos marine.,. and it was just too cramped to make it looke good.. unledd you just stick his back into the dread and his feet hanging out.. but.. | |

| Oh sure it can be done... You can remove more parts of the Dreadnought because its Orky!!! I may have some bits that you'll want. I think it would be cool so I definitly wanna see the conversion!

| I have actually seen that sort of conversion, and it was amusing. I will go try to find pics of it.
e: Can't find it at the moment. They cut open the front, stuck an ork in there with joysticks and levers to control the dread, put bars over the hole to keep him safe, and added some extra legs in the back for support.

This was almost what I was thinking of. Once I get more of an idea, I'll have to post it..... that's kinda cool very "Orky" looking I thought it might be funny to like have the ORC's feet hang out the bottom like he's sitting in a high-chair...?

| I was actually going to say that the ork dread from dakka wasnt very orky at all. It was still to much like a SM Dread. | |

| Yeah, I agree, JT, but the overall look is approximately what I was thinking of doing. Thinking about it, I may actually do the arms differently, and I definitely won't have just the face of the Ork coming through the front. Matter of fact, I may cut out the top and have it like he's sitting in the top of it. I want it to be clear that it was a SM dread, but has been modified to be used by Orks. | |

| I know but that other one looked like a regular SM dread with an ork inserted in it. | |

| found a few bits auctions on eBay that I bid on that I think will help out I got one that's a wreaking ball, one that's exhaust pipes from a truck, another that has ork glyphs. I think that this will help make it orkier.... Also, I thought I would keep the normal face plate on the dread, and melt a huge X through the main portion on it, paint it like I would a SM dread, then paint WAAAAGH! across the X area. | |

| I think it's an excellent idea... and completely in character.
Now... what chapter to defile?
Be sure to throw lots of scrap panels and rivets on it!

| If both Makari and myself actually make it to SciFi in one piece (the one day I can actually make a game and it snows), I'll be getting the dread and the deff kopta today. I should hopefully have the components from eBay later this week. Matt, which chapter hates the Orks the most? | |

| Great project ... I have been thinking along the same converting lines since I got the new starter but I hit a back story problem - being that any SM dredd that was about to go down would self distruct rather than fall into enemy hands... big boom, no bitz.
making it orky is one thing but I can't justify a coward's death from a space marine Dredd?

I say Blood Angels. The scheme would look great amongst all that green, plus the Ork would think it went fasta..

making it orky is one thing but I can't justify a coward's death from a space marine Dredd? Never underestimate the power of the Orks!!! Orks can take a dreadnought down before he even had a chance to have known he was in danger to succumb to the final death....

| Well, Danthar, you can always make it where the thing killing the Space marine in the dread hit the self destruct mechanism and disabled it. I mean, not ALL of them would work perfectly if damaged. I did get pretty far with this, if you want to go to the WIP section you'll see where it was before I left town for the holidays. I've gotten it almost 100% complete now (with painted base, wreaking ball, and a gun ) Oh, and I picked the Ravens.... Don't ask me why, I just thought the Camo green color was kinda interesting. I added some Red bits to make it go fasta too | |
