They look awesome. I know were gonna start seeing more pre heresy armies with forge world making all this old armor and weapons. Think about start a pre heresy 1k sons army now myself with the mk I and mk II armor.

Yeah. They were using cheaper, but thicker, metal because of the disruption of normal mechanicus trade lines and they used adamantite studs to keep the plates fused together.
